When Trauma Meets Injury: Navigating the Overlap of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Brain Injury

    Virtual

    Description

According to recent studies, approximately 5% of adults in the US experience PTSD each year (VA.gov), and an estimated 6.8% will develop PTSD at some point in their lives (National Institute of Mental Health). Women are more likely to develop PTSD than men, and veterans have the highest rates of prevalence. Lifetime prevalence of TBI among adults is estimated at 18.2% (Karamian A, Lucke-Wold B, Seifi A, 2024) and individuals with TBI, particularly those resulting from trauma, are at increased risk for PTSD.

This webinar will present an overview of PTSD, explore how PTSD and brain injury intersect in adults, and highlight critical differences between the two. Designed for brain injury program staff and other community providers, this session will help participants strengthen understanding, improve treatment strategies, and promote integrated, person-centered care.

From Outreach to Shared Leadership: Expanding Collaborations with Young Adults with Lived Experiences

    Virtual

    Description

Partner program announcement – We are pleased to share this opportunity.

Community engaged research (CER) is a collaborative approach between researchers and individuals with lived expertise, whose often under-recognized voices are centered in conducting research, decision-making, and disseminating evidence-based knowledge and meaningful resources. This webinar highlights how the Center for Community Inclusion and Reflective Collaboration (The CIRC Center) has successfully empowered community partners with lived expertise of mental health conditions—from the Young Adult Advisory Board (YAB)—to co-produce research and dissemination projects. We will describe our experiences and share reflections on over a year of these established roles from the perspective of our community partners. Attendees will gain an understanding of how our community partners’ contributions have accelerated CIRC Center research and knowledge translation projects to date and how these projects have impacted our community partners by fostering professional development and a sense of community. Presenters: Davy Yue, Joshua Calarino and Tracy Neville
